Lucy Thomasin Morrish is an Oxfordshire-based artist, specialising in the mediums of illumination, iconography, and miniature painting.
Having spent her life immersed in the picturesque English countryside, Lucy has drawn her inspiration from the deep and rich art history of Medieval Europe. She has looked to draw upon the past to shape her work for the present. The core belief being that by preserving tradition and exploring themes and principles of times past, she might apply these to her own artistic process. Lucy specialises in ancient techniques which have been passed down through centuries and millennia. She has taken it upon herself to master the ancient technique of painting on calfskin vellum. Natural pigments including semi precious minerals and 24 carat gold leaf are implemented into her work.
Lucy wants to continue the traditional techniques which are seen in the medieval manuscripts as she believes these hold the key to knowledge and beauty. She hopes that every detail, love and care can be seen through every detail and brush stroke in her paintings.
If there is to be one theme that will follow Lucy, not just through her career as an artist but her life as a whole, it is the concept of the sacred feminine and how this idea can be explored in innovative and unexpected ways. The idea of the eternal mother, the tower of refuge or even the Greek Goddesses can all be seen in Lucy’s most recent works. As she looks to find her way through life as a woman, she hopes to gain strength, inner wisdom and knowledge from the work created expressing these concepts and themes. Lucy does not look to create art, Lucy is the embodiment of the work that she creates.
